Life and Being in the Collection of Angel Karaliychev “Rye”

Vladimir Aleksandrov

The text traces the transition between the dimensions of life and being in some of the most representative stories from the collection of Angel Karaliychev “Rye”. The various ways in which this transition takes place are traced and the various insights regarding the beginning of being are brought out. The dynamic between life and being is seen as defining the narrative and the figurative specifics of the narratives. The characters in them are torn from the calm rhythm of their everyday life and on their return to it they are charged with existential feelings, changing their worldview completely. The analysis shows how through the transition, the collection realizes its most profound, most difficult to decipher, but also its most key message.
